Wireless Range Plan
The new building completed as part of the Klinikum Würzburg was fitted with the latest in telecommunications technology. 230 WLAN access points and 125 DECT access points were installed throughout the complex of buildings. The WLAN access points can be used to track medical equipment and personnel, as well as electronic patient files for ward rounds, and can also be used to provide Internet access for patients. The DECT access points are used to secure the telephone lines. In future the telephone system is to be transferred to the WLAN system using VoIP.
Prior to work beginning on this formidable project, we carried out a wireless range plan over approximately 60,000 square metres. We calculated the exact number of WLAN and DECT access points required to provide blanket coverage, and their optimal positions were also ascertained.
The wireless range plan was mainly carried out using the 'Ekahau Site Survey' software tool.
» We were especially pleased with the ease with which the building plans could be used in AutoCAD format. All drawings and information were seamlessly added to the overall documentation. «
